Hi. I'm Kaelri. I'm pretty familiar with Enigma, having made it. So instead of bogging down the forum with disparate threads about the same problems, I invite you to post all support issues specific to Enigma in this thread, and I'll do my best to answer them personally.
Please take the time to search this thread before posting - it's very likely that your question has already been asked. :)
Last Update 3 November 2009 at 11.23am.
Patch A patch for Enigma 2.6 can be found here. This is only for users of Rainmeter 1.1, the most recent public release. It will bring your skins up to date with the current source code on deviantArt. Right now, the patcher will do the following:
- Add Remember the Milk Reader. - Fix Gmail-Reader: skin was blank with only one new message. - Fix Music\Winamp (both Sidebar and Taskbar variants): eliminates overlapping text, misnamed measures. - Change Music album backing: replaces with a higher-res version.
If you are beta-testing Rainmeter 1.2, this patch is unnecessary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I make my desktop look like the Preview?
Spoiler:
A. The "Preview" theme is now included in the latest Enigma release. Other than that, you'll need the wallpaper, which is here, and the Lakrits visual style for Windows XP.
Q. The World skin is showing a completely wrong time for my location.
Spoiler:
Please do let me know about this! Refining the time zone repository used by the World skins is an ongoing process, and if you could add a reply to this thread with your current location code and what the correct time should be, you could help us out a lot.
Q. How do I use this with [media player other than iTunes or Winamp]?
Spoiler:
At the moment, the only media players with Rainmeter plugin support are iTunes and Winamp. A universal media controller is planned for the future.
In the meantime, there's a way to cheat a little bit, by modifying a separate app called CD Art Display to make it blend in with the rest of the Enigma suite. You can do this easily by downloading the full Enigma source files package. There, in the "Special Features" folder, you'll find the necessary files and installation instructions.
Q. Where can I get updates about the future of Enigma?
Spoiler:
A. Reports on the progress of Enigma's development will be posted on Liquid Crystal Discourse, a blog on the topic of desktop customization. You're also welcome to beta-test new builds in the Skin Beta Testing forum.
Q. Can I distribute my own mods or ports of Enigma?
Spoiler:
A. Enigma is released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 License. In other words, you're free to redistribute or remix any part of Enigma as long as you credit me (and the people below), you don't make money from it, and you share it on the same terms.
I have taken care that all of the contents of this package were created by me, with the following exceptions:
- ecqlipse 2 icons by chrfb [Creative Commons] - NOOTO VS & CleanGlass VS by lassekongo83 [Creative Commons] - Pure Adium CAD by Nevezen [Creative Commons] - Rainmeter Calendar by limpet [Artist's Permission] - MoxaWeather by moxamax [Artist's Permission] - MoonShine by benjam and jER [Artists' Permission] - Configuration Tool by JSMorley [Artist's Permission] - "Blackface" clock by unknown author. - Calibri and Trebuchet MS by Microsoft.

I could use some input in my ram usage thread, basically everything is a modified version of enigma. Either to include more information (system info), to add a toggle button (notes) or new graphics (moxaweather)
Please and thank you =)

The standard enigma starts with a iTunes plugin for the music skin. How can we change this to other media players? In my case foobar2k?

All the current Enigma Music skins are built on the new iTunes controller platform.
There is a WinAMp/FooBar controller available from Mepu's HUD Vision, as an alternative

Just downloaded rainmeter and your Enigma skin collection today after seeing it on lifehacker, I encounterd a problem with the gmail reader, when I select this rainmeter crashes and wont start again until I remove from rainmeter.ini (which some people wont be able to do).
64bit rainmeter Windows 7. Latest release.
Thanks.
Solved! Rainmeter must be run as administrator for gmail reader to work.

The information entered goes straight to an ini file, but no; there is no encryption as I think you are asking for

A universal media plugin is planned somewhere down the road. For now, you can still use the Enigma-themed CD Art Display styles. You can download them from the source-file package on deviantArt. You'll find them under "Special Features," along with instructions for installing.

This isn't possible, I'm afraid. If it's any comfort, the data is encrypted when it's sent, using a secure HTTPS connection. :)
I am running the 32bit version of engima/rainmeter on vista home premium
I don't run day to day as administrator. (no one should it is a security issue)
Rainmeter fails to start unless I run it as administrator (even without the gmail skin 'closed') I had the gmail skin for a short time but I 'closed' it.
If I set the rainmaker in the startup group to "run as administrator"; Rainmeter won't run at startup (or even at login) and must be run manually (with the admin password) each time I start up.
Is there any way to make Rainmeter run without having to be administrator?
